We are now in the window of time where I suggested we start being weather-aware.
The good news is that this first round is looking good for us. Light to moderate rainfall is overspreading Middle TN. While there are some lightning strikes being detected, the severe threat is staying just to our south and is greatest around the Chattanooga area.
Be careful if you’re out on area roads, as they will become wet in the coming hours.
As expected, the greater severe weather threat appears to arrive after midnight. All modes of severe weather will be possible. I’m keeping a close eye on that threat and will update again at 8:00 pm. The atmosphere is expected to destablize by midnight and thereafter. Just how much it destabilizes is questionable. Stay tuned.
For now, make sure you have multiple ways to get warnings in the overnight hours, including a weather radio and the Cumberland County EMA app and/or another app, such as the Red Cross Tornado app.
I’m keeping a very close eye on things. At this pint, no watches or warnings are expected through at least 8:00.
The current radar shows the severe threat to our south and moving east. We can expect light to moderate rainfall in the coming hours. Again, another special update is coming at 8:00.
