Severe T-Storm Watch Nearby

Special Update Issued Saturday, June 7 at noon

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe t-storm watch for neighboring White County until 6:00 pm. This includes the southern half of Middle TN. The map below shows the counties highlighted in this severe t-storm watch.

As you can see, the watch is close to all of us. We’ll all be weather aware the rest of the afternoon and evening, just in case some of this develops farther north than expected. The main concern is a cluster of strong to severe storms moving through southern West TN at this hour. We’ll track that as it moves eastward and see how it evolves.

If you have outdoor plans this afternoon and evening, please keep an eye on the radar and be aware of any warnings that might be issued. Make sure shelter is close by and easily accessible, just in case (esp for those of you on area lakes today).

I’ll be watching it all closely!

Friday Evening Update

Special Update Issued Friday, June 6 at 6:10 pm

Rain and storms have been widespread this evening but, thus far, storms have stayed below severe limits here on the plateau. There was a severe storm warning issued earlier for Bledsoe County but that has moved east.

More strong storms can be seen on radar near Nashville but our rain cooled airmass should lead to those storms weakening as they move our way later this evening.

Keep in mind that we have another severe storm threat tomorrow. The latest guidance, however, suggests the best risk for such storms will be south of our area. I’ll monitor data tonight and see how that forecast trends.

That severe threat on Saturday will come in the afternoon and evening. The morning is currently looking alright. Just like today, as heat and humidity build in the afternoon we will likely see more showers and storms develop.

I’ll keep an eye on the weather this evening and let you know if there’s anything you need to know about. Otherwise, I’ll have a full update in the morning! You all take care.

Friday Afternoon Update

Special Update Issued Friday, June 6 at 2:00 pm

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) decided to issue a tornado watch for areas west of Nashville this afternoon. Here on the plateau, our atmosphere isn’t as conducive for tornadoes as it is west of Nashville. Still, we’ll track those storms as they move east this afternoon and evening.

The SPC also decided to issue a severe t-storm watch for eastern Kentucky for the rest of the afternoon. You can see those watches on the map below.

Radar continues to light up with storms and some of those have been severe. We’ll be mindful of that threat the rest of the day.

A line of storms is developing west of Nashville and we’ll monitor that as it moves across Middle TN this afternoon. That should arrive here around 5:00 pm.

Aside from this line, numerous showers and storms are developing on radar. If you have outdoor plans today, please stay weather aware and make sure you have access to shelter.

I’ll keep an eye on things!

Storms look to threaten a bit earlier than I expected, so I adjusted the threat timeframe from 3:00-midnight, to 2:00 – midnight. Nothing else has changed from this morning’s update.
