The calm before the storm continues….for one more day…
Today won’t be as nice weatherwise as Thursday was, but it’s still fine for getting things ready for the winter weather that is coming. Keep in mind we still have bitter cold air coming Sunday night and into next week. Any impacts we see from this weekend’s winter storm could linger well into next week.
Clouds will be overspreading our skies today, as a strong arctic front makes its way south. This is the first peice of the weekend winter storm puzzle.
Then, precip increases in intensity and coverage on Saturday, especially in the afternoon and evening. We’ll likely start out as snow and sleet in most areas, then transition to sleet and then freezing rain. That wintry mix persists into the night. Keep in mind that weather conditions can vary over short distances, especially when precip is transitioning from one form to another.
By Sunday, temps may jump above freezing just before more arctic air rushes in by afternoon. That newer cold air will switch the mix back to snow, with light accumulations looking likely.
Then, temps plunge to near zero Sunday night. We’ll do that again Monday night, after a day of scattered flurries.
I’ve updated the 5-Day from last night to go even colder Monday night. Please be ready for this cold coming, especially if you were to lose power in this weekend’s winter storm.

Threat Outlook
These graphics are unchanged from last night. I’m not ready to go “high” confidence in this forecast, but I’m getting close. Keep in mind the snow total forecast is for the whole event. Snow may accumulate on the onset on Saturday, then again at the end on Sunday and Sunday night (even Monday could bring a dusting or so of accumulation).
